Ferrari 4-cylinder racing engines have won not one but two world championships in Formula 1, and many victories with the 750 Monza, and with the 500 Testa Rossa, all with the straight-4 powerplant.
Enzo Ferrari presented its first 4-cylinder 1-liter (1032 cc) engine in 1959. Later that year a design presented by no less than Giotto Bizzarrini for the chassis and suspension, and Giorgetto Bertone for the style would be the new home for the artwork created by Enzo.
At the last moment of the presentation, Enzo thought that the car didn´t have the qualities to carry the "Cabalino Rampante", so he entrusts the sale of his "baby" to A.S.A., a newly formed company, headed by Enzo's friend Orionzo De Nora.
The production was very limited, in fact, only 85 Berlinettas were ever built, in which 10 where spider. Sadly, ASA had to close their doors in 1967. Today, the rare survivors of ASA-Ferrari are highly-sought-after, and the ASA 1000GT is exhibited at the Ferrari museum near the Dino 246, two Ferrari projects that were sold without the Ferrari badge but are nevertheless authentic Ferraris with a much more interesting story than any other one.
My grandfather had the possibility to own two ASA 1000GT during his life. they are not as good looking as the California or the Testarossa, but it has such an amazing story, that every person who knew about them, would know how rare and special they are. My grandfather was that kind of person. He knew so much about the story and loved so much the ASA that as soon as he found himself with the possibility to restore his second one, he did not hesitate and achieved the impossible to own it.
