BENJAMIN BELFUS
When I was eight years old, I had my first real experience with cars. My grandfather invited me to help him on one of his projects. He was restoring a classic Ferrari. I fell in love the second I saw the car and that passion for cars and especially Ferraris began to grow inside of me. What masterpieces to start working with! From then on, I wouldn´t stop going every Saturday to work with cars.
Time passed and in 2014, I had already gained some experience and decided to start my own project along with my grandfather as my mentor and guide. I started looking for my next car. It took me almost a year to find the perfect one. I looked at a Volkswagen Beetle, a Mini Cooper Austin, and an MG. All of them were amazing cars but none made me fall in love
After months of searching, my grandfather found a quite interesting car- an Alfa Romeo 2600 Touring Spider born in the year 1965. This is not only a beautiful car but has such an amazing story. It was a limited production and renowned for being the car responsible for breaking Alfa Romeo´s tradition of the six-cylinder engine. This was the car I had been waiting for.
Since then, I´ve dedicated every Saturday working on it, and extra hours during the week looking for parts and information online. My goal was to restore the car to its original state (or as close as possible) and gain experience for future cars. I worked during my summers in order to pay for the parts and tertiary work that needed to be done
This car has gained extra importance for me not only for being my first independent project, but also because my grandfather died a year ago, so now I am on my own and everything seems ten times harder than it was, but I am slowly learning all that my grandfather was going to teach me.
I hope in the future I will be able to restore more cars and keep enjoying one of the things I love the most.
